1. Introduction to Event Analysis

Hello, and welcome to my blog. This blog is a simple introduction on Event Analysis and Use Case Modelling. Within this blog I wish to go what event analysis is, how it is performed, what the key components of a use case diagram.

I. What is Event Analysis?

Event analysis is a component within developing an information system within a business environment. Before any actual design can begin, a project team must first perform event analysis to determine the functions and requirements of the final information system. It stresses the need to identify and understand each of the situations in the environment to which the system must respond.

An event is an occurrence which takes place at a specific time and initiates a predetermined response from the system. When a specific event occurs, the system responds as completely as possible, and once completed, it waits until another event occurs. Overall, event analysis identifies the events to which the system is expected to respond, the incoming message associated with the event, and the desired response.

Once these events are investigated, categorized, and analyzed, they can be documented and modeled using a Use Case Model, which I will discuss in my next post.
